Applying to Honors Humanities

Each year, the Honors Humanities Program recruits a talented class of approximately 50 students to join the University of Maryland's most prestigious and vibrant learning community for students interested in the humanities and creative arts. Open to students from all majors, Honors Humanities invites incoming students from all parts of campus, including the natural sciences, behavioral and social sciences, and applied professional fields, such as business and journalism. All Honors Humanities students do have at least two things in common: a stellar record of high school achievement and a demonstrated committment to the humanities and/or creative arts.

In order to participate in Honors Humanities, prospective students must first be admitted to the Honors College at the University of Maryland. For best consideration, prospective students should submit their application to the University of Maryland no later than the priority deadline of November 1. If invited to the Honors College, students may then indicate their preference to join the Honors Humanities living-learning program. More information on this process is provided to students admitted to the Honors College.

Admission to the Honors College is rigorous and highly competitive. Only a small fraction (less than ten percent) of students in the Honors College will be able to participate in Honors Humanities. The average combined (Math & Critical Reading) SAT score of each year's incoming class of Honors Humanities students is above 1400 and mean GPA is 3.9+ unweighted.

Invited students must confirm their intent to enroll in the University of Maryland and the Honors Humanities Program no later than May 1. Complete details on the enrollment confirmation process is provided with the official offer of admission.

Students in Honors Humanities may simultaneously participate in the Jimenez-Porter Writers' House and the Language House Immersion Program during their second years in the Honors Humanities Program.
